being ready I invited tenders from Messrs Handyside of Derby, Messrs Rankin of Liverpool, and Balfour of Leven near Glasgow, as they are all largely engaged in this class of business. Messrs Handyside declined to tender having already been unsuccessful against Messrs Rankin on two occasions.
Messrs Rankin for delivery in London required £485. 6.0 or in Liverpool £444.10.0 while Messrs Balfour undertook to
